Meta Releases Muse Wonder, Charging Individuals Directly via US$20–100 Monthly Subscriptions for the First Time
Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on 12 October, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs under Alexandr Wang. Muse app users must pay a US$20 or US$100 monthly subscription to access it; the strongest variant, Muse Wonder Full, is limited to Muse Code subscribers at US$50 or US$200 a month. API pricing is US$4 per million input tokens and US$20 per million output tokens.
Meta's revenue has historically come almost entirely from advertising, so selling model capability is its first attempt to build direct revenue outside ads. Locking the strongest variant behind a paywall while putting only the smaller model on the API shows it is betting on consumer willingness to pay rather than developer distribution.
Our view is that the shift from usage-based pricing to per-seat subscriptions will turn part of the enterprise AI budget from a variable cost into a fixed one, and move negotiating leverage from API discounts towards seat counts and renewal cycles. Procurement teams should fold subscription models into their annual budgeting early.
For finance and procurement, AI spending moves from an adjustable usage bill to a seat contract locked in for the year; IT gains an extra layer of seat allocation and offboarding reclamation work.
This week, ask finance to list your existing AI tools in two columns — usage-billed and seat-subscribed — with the annual total for each, so you can see the share that is fixed cost.
